The First Week

Well we all made it through our first week!! We had a super busy week already.
Math: We have discussed a couple ways to solve multiplication problems that relate back to the standard algorithm. I really think that doing this will help students see math from a new perspective and hopefully have more success with it through out the year. I want them to know why it works not just how it works.

Science: In science we discussed the difference between inferences and observations. We read Dr. Xargle and laughed about all the inferences "aliens" may be making about us. They also got to watch an amazing video called, The Power of Ten. You should ask them about their experience.

Social Studies: We all got to talk about the places we have been in the world and find them on a map. We also colored and labeled the continents. We a had a lesson using chocolate chip cookies to discuss civilizations and what is vital from the land for their survival. They had great ideas and really knew what they were talking about.

Writing: The students started writing their Hands Poems. I was so SO impressed with their ability to write so well. They all had wonderful ideas and I can't wait to share some of them on here. I will get pictures on here as soon as possible so you can all be as proud of them as I am.

I had a great week and I hope all of you did as well. I can't wait to see all your smiling faces Monday morning!

First Day...finally over :)

Well we made it through yesterday! I love LOVE my class. I think we are going to have a great year. I'm very excited to get things rolling smoothly. All of the kids have been great. We had a little situation yesterday afternoon, which I'm sure they told you all about. All I have to say about it is, "When life kicks you, let it kick you forward". We're are going to start a really fun writing activity this week. I'll get some pictures posted on here of some of the students work.

Meet Mrs. Hansen

Hi,
My name is Rachel Hansen and this is my first year teaching in my own classroom. I'm very excited and anxious to get this year started. I grew up in Sterling, a small town in central Utah. I graduated from Utah State University in 2007. I decided not to teach and have a baby instead. Her name is Jadelyn and she is three years old. I think she is as excited to get to know my students as I am. I have been married for 8 years to my husband Rob. As a family we enjoy being up the mountains, fishing, camping, hunting, four-wheeling, or just relaxing.
I can't wait to meet all of you and will be updating on here throughout the year. I'm going to dedicate one post a week to a star student so all of you can get to know our class too.
